A record player left behind in an abandoned flophouse in the ghost town of Vulture City, AZ
It was two years ago today that the platform of the 305m Arecibo Telescope collapsed. The Observatory continues to produce science from its other instruments, including airglow cameras, lidars and a 12m radio telescope.
Here's a sunrise photo from happier times, taken at the end of an observing session in November 2009.
Who is still yelling here that Telegram is anonymous and secure - Who seriously believes this fairy tale anymore?

My only way for WhatsApp in case you really need to contact someone is:
Mautrix-WhatsApp-Bridge on my Matrix server, the WA app lives on my Android test phone which has zero contacts etc. on it (it's just to test the Android version of my whitelabeled RocketChat app). Bound to one of my fixed-line DDI's where nothing but an announcement takes calls.
I just need to open WA for a few seconds on that phone every 2 weeks to prevent WA from killing the connection to my bridge.
So I can use Element via my Matrix server to communicate to the WA world. No metadata, no contact upload, nothing 😉
Threema is nice, but it suffers even more from people's laziness than Signal etc.
I have no clue why all "normal" people are still glueing to the most stupid, most data collecting sh1t (which I've abandoned 2 years ago).
It's so hard even to get the team staff of my sports club into our #Nextcloud talk ... you barely need to stand next to them and force them to install the app right now.
Why is this so hard to care about #privacy ...? 🥺
